I was lucky the other day and found about half a kilo of Semisanguineus. It always makes me smile when I manage to locate them among firs and pine. Seen from above, they have a boring brown top, but underneath the lamellas are a vivid red. The stem is yellow. The red dye material is located in the hat and lamellas. The stem contain yellowish dye material. This is why it makes good sense to separate the hat from the stem and put them in the bath separately.
Today, my dye pot was filled with 2 kilos of hats. I had emptied out my freezer in order to make a strong dye bath. 400 grams of unmordanted wool was added.
The result: From left: first bath (400 grams of unmordanted wool). Middle: Second bath (200 grams of unmordanted wool). (3rd bath is to come later....). Note the strip of cloth - it is raw silk mordanted with alum/CoT from first bath.
